sob作“哭泣；啜泣”解时是不及物动词；作“哭诉；呜咽地说”解时是及物动词，此时宾语后常接副词out表示“呜咽地说出某事”，out也可提至宾语前。sob用作及物动词时，还可引出直接引语。
