effect, affect
effect与affect词形相近但意思并不相同。它们的区别是:
1.affect只能用作及物动词,不能用作名词; effect既可用作名词,也可用作动词。
2.effect意为“使生效,引起,实现”, affect意为“影响”。试比较:
This may be effected.
这可能会实现。
This may be affected.
这可能会受影响。
3.affect的前缀-a表示“向上”,而effect的前缀-e表示“出来”。因此, affect侧重表示原因,即“影响”的动作; 而effect侧重表示结果,即“造成”一种特殊效果。试比较:
My opinion was affected by the recent development of events.
我的看法受到了事态发展的影响。
The recent development of events effected a change in my opinion.
最近事态的发展使我的看法起了变化。
4.affect的宾语是被影响的人,而effect则以“改进”“变化”等词作宾语。

effect, realize
这两个词都可表示“实现”,其区别是:前者一般用于有目的的行动,且实现起来相对比较容易; 后者多指实现离现实有一段距离的愿望等,实现起来相对较难,甚至有可能实现不了。在时间上, effect要快于realize。例如:
The show effected nothing.展出没有取得效果。
At last my wish was realized.最后我的愿望实现了。
