1.education主要指在学校里所受的正规的“教育”。用于技能方面时,可表示“培养,训练”,着重于经过教导、学习所得到的知识与能力。有时还可表示“教养,修养”。
2.education一般用作不可数名词。但表示一段或一种“教育”时,其前可加不定冠词; 在有形容词修饰时,则一定要加不定冠词。

Their education was a continuous concern to him.他们的教育问题是他一直关心的事。

education, culture
这两个词的含义有区别:education强调通过教育得到的知识与能力,而culture则强调通过教育得到的素质上的提高。例如:
有教养的人喜欢好的音乐。
［误］  A person with education appreciates good music.
［正］  A person with culture appreciates good music.

1.“初〔中,高〕等教育”的英、美说法有所不同。英式英语分别是:primary〔secondary (school), tertiary〕 education; 美式英语分别是:elementary〔secondary, higher〕 education。注意在当代英式英语中tertiary education已很少见,一般也多用higher education。
2.compulsory education(义务教育)和adult education(成人教育)在英、美通用; 而further education(继续教育)则只用于英国,是作为中学教育的一种补充,但不属于大学教育。
