1.depart作为不及物动词,基本意思是“离开,动身,出发”,指离开或偏离原来的位置,多指火车、汽车、轮船和飞机等,按行车〔船〕时刻表中所规定的时间“离开”,也可指离开某人或离开某种境况。
2.depart除几个习语外,极少用作及物动词。
3.短语depart from可作“背离”“不按照”“不遵守”“不按…行事”解。
4.depart不可用作“(互相)分别”解。

这组词都有“离开”“离去”的意思。其区别是：depart指“离开某个地方”“从某地出发”,是正式用语; 而part则指“与某人离别”“分手”,是一般用语。

depart属非延续性动词,表示一时的动作,所以在用于完成时态时不能与表示延续一段时间的状语连用。例如:
他们两年前就去了日本。
误:They've departed for Japan for two year.
正:They departed for Japan two years ago.
